Tell us a little about yourself. What is your story?

Hi! My name is Cara and I live in Vancouver and am passionate about travel & adventure- I have been a blogger/creator for 8 years, and before that I graduated with a Women' Studies Degree from UVIC & worked as a Fashion Buyer at Secret Location in Vancouver. I love to swim, be in the sunshine, read, and spend time with loved ones.

What inspired you to become a content creator?

I moved to Vancouver and wanted to work in fashion but was working as an editor at the time...It was a way to get into fashion without actually working in the industry. I would shoot my own photos and create blog posts (before IG was even invented yet!) and then it slowly grew to what it is today.

What does a typical day look like?

It really depends if I am home or traveling but...These days with Covid, a typical day for me includes waking up and having lots of coffee while I reach out to brands, coordinate shoots & answer emails - Then I will usually work out either by going for a run outside or going to the gym, and then it is time to spend time with loved ones, be it with my boyfriend Zach, or with buddies! On shoot days, it can be a bit crazy - I often like to get up to catch the sunrise, or I will travel to Vancouver Island to shoot with my photographer, so that includes an early morning and then adventuring to different spots in Vancouver or on the island doing outfits changes and shooting as much content as I can! On travel days - Well, those are always different, but the day focuses around breakfast & always lots of coffee, and then off for shooting with some swimming & eating usually in the middle and then back to wherever I am staying to get ready for sunset shoots.

What has been one of the most rewarding experiences in your line of work so far?

I love my job because I get to be so creative and I get to be my own boss, so the more I hustle, the more jobs and opportunities I get which I love! I have had some amazing experiences getting to travel to amazing places, meet super kind, fun people, and have moments like getting to attend the Victoria's Secret Runway show or the Cannes Film Festival.

What was the inspiration behind the Cara Jourdan x Charlie & Paisley Collection?

I have always adored Charlie & Paisley -their designs are beautiful and of course, I am so proud that they are a Canadian company. When we decided to create a collection, we wanted it to be feminine and soft while also being something you could wear everyday. The soft velvet we chose is super safe for your hair, and adds a bit of interest to any outfit, be it a dressy look or jeans and a tee. We chose the colour because it is fairly neutral and again, can be paired with pretty much anything!

The Cara Jourdan x Charlie & Paisley collection includes a scrunchie and a headband which are handmade in Vancouver from hand-painted silk velvet. This fabric blend provides the sophisticated sheen of silk and the soft plush pile of velvet.

What is the best piece of advice to others that are interested in becoming content creators?

It is a lot more than it seems from the outside - I pretty much work everyday, 24 hours a day :) If you are self motivated and can work from home or on the road well, can work with people, and can handle getting some no's (for every yes there are a lot of no's!) then I recommend becoming a content creator! It is truly rewarding when you put the work in. I always suggest that people start by having it be a hobby, not a job right away- It has taken most of us who work full time quite awhile to get here...and that will give you time to figure out your niche and market. I would also suggest people perhaps intern or work with a content creator to see how it works and what goes into making it a career. The good thing is, there is always space for everyone - If you are passionate about it, you will succeed!
